Leaving the stables we head east towards the top of Mount Kofinas where we make our first stop after riding for 1.30 hours. We leave the horses and go up to the top, Timios Stavros, which is the highest point of Asterousia. The view from up there leaves us breathless. We go back down after 30 minutes and ride south until we spot, from an altitude of 1050m, the monastery on the shore.
We have already covered half of the route. We take a rest and have lunch at the location of Apanemia inside a pinewood. After a 2-hour stop we take the road to the monastery where we will spend the night in the simple yet clean and hospitable rooms of the monastery. We will enjoy the hospitality of the monks and the swim in the crystalline waters of the beach. The next morning we look after the horses and have breakfast in the courtyard of the monastery. Very soon we follow the trail until our next stop, the seaside village of Agios Ioannis. We cover a distance of 3.5km riding or walking depending on the difficulty of the path. Just before we reach the village of Agios Ioannis we meet the beautiful beach of Eliyia, where we can swim keeping always in mind that the stop between the beach and the village shouldn’t last more than three hours altogether. We can swim and have lunch at the village too. Next we ride all the way back up to Kapetaniana.
